TreeHouse Studio
Monica L. Laird

The TreeHouse Studio is about an hour east of San Juan and not far at all from some of the nicer resorts on the island. If any of you are passing through, please know you are welcome any time. There's nothing like sharing a glass of wine with a fellow artist, watching the hawks cruise the airwaves above while the world goes by below. Mi casa es su casa.

The TreeHouse Studio........ Welcome to the TreeHouse Studio!  As you can see, the house is built off the side of a hill. Upstairs you will find my office space while below the house is my classroom and framing area, with a small air-conditioned room off of this space that I use for a gallery and more storage. From both upstairs and down, you overlook the northeast coast of Puerto Rico.

Negotiating Table...  What you will be looking at is one large room. This area is just to the left of the front door. I laughingly call the little bistro table my negotiating table, because I find that this is where
I end up a lot of the time with my clients, taking care of the business end of my art. You can see the back of my computer table and my book shelf. Any cupboard, wall unit or chest you see in this room is used for storage space for my art goodies. That's my Rottweiler Daisy in the right foreground.
(Short for Oopsey-Daisy)

Just inside front door.JPG (32613 bytes)

Just inside the front door....   From this vantage point, you see the area just inside my front door, with the desk I use for bill paying and preparing my mailings. Being within arm's reach of tropical foliage takes a lot of the boredom out of such mundane activities

Looking towards work table.JPG (26744 bytes)

Work Space...  (aka "dining room table") This is where I paint. As you can see, not only do I have windows on the north side, but on the east and west as well. You can't see it, but believe me, the vista is inspirational
and the breeze refreshing.

Looking towards my work space....  You are now standing next to the kitchen counter looking towards my work space. The windows in front of you face north so the light is always great. That's Spike sitting in the middle of everything. She's kind of like an obese Taco Bell dog who beats up Daisy the Rottweiler every week or so.

Living Room..... This is what you see looking towards the west side of the room. This is the living room that I carved out for myself.

The Gallery ......  "Gallery" is a rather grandiose term for this little room but I've fixed it up as a place to show my work to clients. It's air conditioned and there's a lot of flat storage for my papers and unframed paintings that isn't visible in this photo.

Classroom .....    This is the area below the house that I use as a classroom and framing space. The view is to the west towards San Juan. This is a great spot to sit and drink a glass of wine at sunset. Fortunately the rains come from the east and the overhang of the house is enough to keep this area protected from most storms. I've installed surround sound speakers so that my students can lose themselves in the music, the view and the art.
We have a good time.
