The sun came out today so I hauled the new diptych out for a photo. Primeval is acrylic on canvas, 48 x 60″ total size (48 x 36″ and 48 x 24″. As mentioned before, I started this painting some time back. I got off track with a couple of commissions and just got back to it last week. I just kept staring at it…loving so many things about it but also thinking about my usual layering and all that. This one is different. I have no idea if anything will change on other paintings in the future, but this one has much more transparency vs. opaque areas than has been my usual process for quite some time. More than likely it is just a “gift” of some kind. AND, I’ll take it since I like it.

Sure……I used a Canon XT digital SLR with the kit lens. I always try to take a good high res shot and save that one. Then I go into Paint Shop Pro (any other software you have) and then save it also as WEB resolution which is 400 pixels vertical and 72 dpi. I find that taking a good hi-res is better for making a lower res file for the web later than taking a shot at the lower res in the first place.
I love so many things about this piece, like the purple, the blue/black, the movement, the calm, the fact that it is two and one… but especially the marks and 'tears' along the top part of the reds.
Olga, you really started my day off with a bang. I love the way you phrased your feeling about Primeval. Now that I look again, I see even more than I did before some differences in this piece than my usual paintings.

Thanks, Martha. This was an experiment…just trying to get away from the usual way I start painting……….SO, the transparency from pouring, spritzing and laying the canvas flat on the floor to begin with no line.
